As we start this tribute to the Waterford team of the era, I can't but draw attention to today's Irish Independent which has a feature on our great rivals from the period - Shamrock Rovers. The rivalry between the two teams was fierce, as between them they won most of the major trophies from the mid-sixties to the early seventies.
Rovers' cup run - six in a row - was a remarkable achievement and features a 3-0 defeat of the Blues in 1968. Mick Leech, later to play for Waterford (uninspiringly) scored two that day. The article features the above photograph from their victory over Limerick in 1966.
